Theatre for a New Audience at Polonsky Shakespeare Center

TFANA’s vision was to build a simple, elegant, dynamic space to house this American classic theater, which is rooted in the traditions of  Shakespeare.  The facility allows the company to expand its education programs in the Public Schools to offer additional after-school programs, and, when not performing its own work, provide affordable rentals to other groups. Akustiks worked with architect Hugh Hardy of H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture on the design of the new 250-seat home for the company. Providing the acoustical and audio video design, Akustiks developed a space where speech intelligibility is critically important to the success of the venue; located directly across the street from the famed Brooklyn Academy of Music.

[The theater is] wonderful for plays. It doesn’t have a character that forces itself on you. It’s a neutral space that is waiting for the words of the actors to fill it.”
